Grab is so cruel to drivers!

After deducting the discount paid to the company, the gas price is high, the driver only earns a few pennies. If you encounter a traffic jam, flooded road, or get fined, it’s considered driving for free.

Traditional taxis suddenly revived, Grab lost

The recently announced financial report of Anh Duong Vietnam Joint Stock Company (owner of the Vinasun taxi brand) recorded revenue of nearly 250 billion VND, an increase of 65% over the same period last year.

All expenses decreased, helping profit after tax fluctuate sharply, 5 times higher than the first quarter of the year and a large difference compared to the loss of VND 66 billion in the same period of 2021.

Vinasun’s management said the sudden profit was due to a complete recovery of business activities after the epidemic was controlled. “The drivers have returned to the company to continue doing business and 100% of the vehicles are put into operation and are no longer parked,” Vinasun’s leader’s report wrote.

Thanks to that, Vinasun is likely to exceed the goal of “be profitable at all costs” and avoid the decision to delist shares if there are no unusual factors that cause business results to suddenly reverse in the second half of the year.

Previously, the taxi company that used to lead the market share in Ho Chi Minh City had a series of losses for two consecutive years (in 2020, the loss was VND 210 billion and the following year it increased to VND 277 billion). The company also had to cut more than 2,500 jobs, including about 1,800 drivers because the speed of recovery of the transportation market after a long period of separation was not as fast as expected, leading to a large number of vehicles parked in the yard and a large volume of vehicles. not much work.

Customers have booked up to 4-5 times through the app and still cannot catch the bus

In recent days, a common phenomenon is that customers have to order up to 4-5 times through the app before they can call a technology taxi. Many customers booked through Grab, but the app informed them that they could not find a driver nearby. Switching to calling a car via be’s app, the driver sometimes accepts the trip but then cancels the trip.

According to this customer, recently there have been times when calling a technology taxi has been quite difficult, and the fare has also increased. The distance from home to the office, nearly 3 km, used to only cost about 30,000 VND, but now it has increased to more than 40,000 VND, sometimes even up to 50,000 VND.

In Ho Chi Minh City during peak hours, fares double, sometimes triple, but it is almost impossible for customers to call a technology taxi.

Through research, drivers are now somewhat limited to running around the streets waiting to start their cars like before to save gas, so many areas outside the center are also more difficult to park.

Drivers began to criticize and abandon technology taxis

Gas prices continue to rise, affecting their income. Many technology taxi drivers stop using the app, and some even have to sell their cars.

Grab drivers protest the company’s discount policy.

On technology taxi groups, many drivers said they temporarily stopped using the app while gas prices rose too high. GrabCar drivers say this is the “most difficult time” since they started running technology taxis.

In addition, since the beginning of this year, technology taxis have had to change to yellow license plates, so many people traveling by family car have abandoned the application, still keeping the white license plate to run airport services or make this trip convenient.

Grab is so cruel to drivers!

“Running like crazy in the streets all day regardless of rain or shine. Bring home 300k, not including wear and tear and damage to tires…. You should quit doing other jobs,” a driver lamented.

After deducting the discount paid to the company, now the price of gasoline has increased, the driver only earns less than before despite putting in no less hard work. When there is a traffic jam, or when the street is flooded, it is considered as running for free.

“Grab takes a discount from car drivers of more than 33%, gas prices are sometimes 30,000 VND/liter, so how can drivers survive. There are rides that cost only 31,000 VND, minus the discount, and the driver has just over 19,000 VND. Not to mention having to pick up passengers from a distance of nearly 3km, on the inner city road with the distance to pick up and drop off passengers to the drop off point, the driver not only makes no profit but also loses money on gas!

I’m honestly a little disappointed that Grab is so cruel to drivers!”, Mr. Nguyen Cuong was annoyed.

Many experienced technology taxi drivers are no longer interested in driving through the app because they have to pay high discounts. Instead, they can use other forms such as traveling by bus, traveling to the province or to the airport.

And even return to running traditional taxis!

Grab drivers gathered in front of a company office to protest the high discount policy.
