Lotus Electre – high-performance electric SUV with more than 600 horsepower

Lotus Electre, the world’s first electric high-performance SUV, has just been launched by the British sports car brand and is expected to be on the market in mid-2023.

Lotus Electre is Lotus’s first SUV and this car shows the vision of the future of the famous British sports car brand. With Geely at the helm, Lotus is aiming to reach a broader customer segment, no longer limited to the sports car segment that focuses on driving pleasure.

Lotus Electre is one of three electric cars launched by Lotus in the near future. The car’s name Electre means “birth” in Hungarian, referring to the revival of Lotus as well as the appearance of electric cars in the near future.

Lotus’s newly launched electric SUV is quite large in size with a wheelbase of 3,019 mm long and 1,630 mm high. This car is even 179 mm longer than the Porsche Cayenne. The front of the car is designed to be short without an engine under the hood. This allows the wheel axle to move forward and increases interior space.

Lotus Electre possesses an aggressive design with bold, strong cut lines. The front of the car is designed with a horizontal digital light cluster. The air vents below are used to direct airflow to the top of the vehicle through ducts through the bonnet. The rear of the car is designed in a low-slung coupe style, with two small spoilers integrated on the roof. The slim taillight cluster connects both sides of the vehicle body. Lotus Electre is equipped with 23-inch wheels.

The front of the car is equipped with a hidden charging port and new generation LIDAR sensor, and a camera-shaped rearview mirror is equipped to help the car increase aerodynamic efficiency. Lotus’s new generation LIDAR sensor is integrated to bring high-level autonomous driving capabilities to the vehicle. Meanwhile, the vehicle’s camera-like rearview mirror can be used to create an environment when the driver uses 360-degree camera technology.

Inside, the vehicle’s cockpit is designed in a futuristic style. The electronic dashboard is completely removed, replaced by a small screen only 30 mm high to display information. A similar sized screen strip is also arranged next to the passenger seat to display entertainment information. The center-mounted entertainment screen is 15.1 inches in size.

The car’s steering wheel uses a sports steering wheel with a square design. The integrated feature buttons are all exquisitely finished. The seats have a sporty design and are covered with environmentally friendly artificial leather.

As for performance, the Lotus Electre is built on the British car brand’s premium electric platform. The car has many different variants, the lowest version will have a capacity of 600 horsepower provided by 2 electric motors located at 2 wheel axles. With this power, Lotus Electre can accelerate to 100 km/h in 3 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 260 km/h.

Lotus equips its electric car model with a 100 kWh battery. According to WLTP measurement standards, the vehicle can operate at a range of up to 600 km per charge. If using a 350 kW charging source, the car can charge an amount of electricity to help it travel 200 km in 20 minutes.

Lotus Electre is equipped with a pneumatic fork system with the ability to raise and lower height. The car also has rear-wheel steering and an active stabilizer bar. The LIDAR system with 4 sensors throughout the vehicle is also equipped to serve high-level self-driving features.

The Lotus Electre electric SUV will be produced at Lotus’ new factory in Wuhan, China in 2023 and is expected to go on sale from mid-2023.
