By the end of 2023, Mercedes-Benz Vietnam has had 9 vehicle recalls, including newly launched cars and Maybach luxury cars.

Right in the last month of 2023, Mercedes-Benz Vietnam had to deploy 3 recalls of nearly 3,000 vehicles, including the GLC car line that was just launched not long ago.

According to data from the Vietnam Register, starting from December 2023, there will be 2,909 Mercedes-Benz vehicles that will have to be recalled in the Vietnamese market, including car models such as S-Class, V-Class, C-Class, E-Class , notably including the newly launched super luxury car Maybach GLS 480 4Matic or the new generation GLC and the AMG GT 53 sports car.

The vehicles will be recalled in 3 batches, including 2 batches of 2,258 vehicles with faulty fuel pump systems. These defective vehicles include Mercedes-Benz C200, E180, E200, E300, GLC200, S450, Maybach GLS 480 4MATIC, AMG GT 53, GLS 450 4Matic and V250. Of which, about 1,800 vehicles have been delivered and have production time from August 2021 to September 2022.

The reason is believed to be that the fuel pump on the affected vehicles does not meet specifications and under certain conditions the fuel pump function is impaired and may stop working. This can cause the vehicle to suddenly stop and can cause a risk of collision/accident while operating, especially on highways that often have high speeds.

Vehicles subject to the recall will be inspected and fuel pump assemblies replaced for affected vehicles as a precautionary measure. Repair time takes about 1.5 hours.

The remaining batch involves 651 Mercedes-Benz GLC (X254) cars of the latest generation produced at the Vietnamese factory from November 2022 – May 2023. These vehicles were determined to have an error related to the tow hook thread hole and 517 vehicles were sold, the remainder are currently at Mercedes-Benz dealers.

Accordingly, this tow hook threaded hole still does not meet the technical specifications and does not reach the required depth of the bolt connection to the tow hook of the front cross bar. Therefore, the bolt connection becomes loose under load in some cases, potentially leading to an accident.

With this incident, affected vehicles will take up to 4 hours to repair with free inspection and replacement of the cross bar if necessary.

Notably in 2023, the Mercedes-Benz brand in Vietnam had 9 vehicle recalls with a quantity of up to thousands of units. This is also one of the car manufacturers with the largest number of recalls in the Vietnamese market, which is quite understandable because this brand owns the most diverse product portfolio in the luxury car segment.
