Piaggio Fly 2012 – More amenities

Inheriting Piaggio’s prestigious lines, the 2012 Fly version has a fashionable design and is equipped with many amenities suitable for the times.

Going back in time to 2006, Fly was introduced to the Vietnamese market with a selling price of nearly 45 million VND. However, the affordable scooter model of the luxury motorbike brand Piaggio was quickly put on the list of one of the “gas-guzzling” models and quickly “downgraded” with a saddle with a “long” height. .

However, the 2012 Piaggio Fly has been given a completely new look with a sharp and unique design, especially equipped with more modern amenities, officially launched in mid-February. During this introduction, Piaggio brought to the market two versions 125 and 150 with selling prices of 43,900,000 VND and 53,500,000 VND (VAT included), respectively. But will this 2012 Fly generation dispel the traces left by the first generation? Let’s find out and experience this product on a sunny and windy Hanoi afternoon.

Fashion design

If you place products with familiar names in the mid-range scooter line such as Honda Lead and a worthy competitor in terms of cost, Kymco People 16FI, then if the buyer is a woman, she also likes a fashionable product. , labeled as the most prestigious brand in the motorbike industry, they will most likely choose to buy Fly 2012.

Why? Simply put, Fly 2012 has inherited many of the trendy design features of the Piaggio Liberty, a name that just by hearing it, you will think of a product for those who deserve to be stylish.

Piaggio Fly 2012 – Scooter for women

Indeed, in its new appearance, Fly 2012 has “transformed” in every aspect. The front cover of the car has a protruding design, featuring a black mask. The triangular headlight on the steering wheel has a luxurious chrome border connected to a stylized clock face with a glossy black upper border.

The Fly 2012’s rear handle design has a large size and good grip, creating convenience for users when needing to lead or grind in narrow spaces. Piaggio is equipped with a set of 5 double-spoke wheels, tire sizes for the front and rear wheels are both 120/70 -12.

The vehicle has a length of 1,890mm and a width of 675mm, while the seat height is 735mm, much lower than the old Fly (785mm) by 50mm. Compared to Honda Lead’s seat height of 740 mm, Fly is 0.5 mm lower. In fact, this height is only suitable for people under 1.6 m tall. For people with 1.6 m or more, this saddle is low, so leg space is lacking and the driver easily gets tired when traveling long distances.

The trunk opening lock is still traditional, and the hat hook is convenient

One detail that impressed us the most is that the paint has a glossy, smooth finish that is very eye-catching even though the car’s plastic parts are all made in Vietnam. Next, thanks to the high ground clearance, getting on and off the sidewalk is simple for Fly.

More amenities

In this new version, Piaggio has focused on developing many useful utilities for Fly 2012. The most outstanding feature that must be mentioned first is the electric kickstand, this function is extremely safe because if you forget the kickstand. The car also means you won’t be able to start the engine. Piaggio engineers have arranged the fuel tank right under the car floor, making it easier for users to refuel. However, the plastic lid covering the fuel tank is not very sturdy, so be careful otherwise you will have to regularly spend money to replace it!.

Next is the large trunk, this is the biggest surprise that Piaggio has for its customers when the trunk can hold up to 2 half-head helmets and many other commonly used items. However, while many other car manufacturers have equipped electric trunk opening, Fly still applies the traditional opening method of using a key to open. This is a disadvantage compared to other competitors in the same segment.

In return, Fly has technological advantages such as an engine shutdown function in case of emergency, accompanied by an electric lock system equipped with a safety chip displayed on the central clock. This dashboard is also more modern in design than the previous generation when a lot of information was electronicized. A useful feature that Piaggio equips the new Fly is the passing light switch, this function is integrated into the high beam/high beam mode switch.

Despite the smooth overall design, the design of the control buttons is unnecessarily large, more rough than slender, and not smooth when using it.

Fly 2012 has beautiful glossy paint, and the plastic is completely domestically manufactured

Overall, Fly 2012 has won hearts with its attractive design and is especially aimed at users with many innovative utilities.

Electronic fuel injection engine

Piaggio Fly 125 is equipped with a LEADER engine, 124 cc cylinder capacity, maximum power of 8.0 kW at 8,250 rpm, maximum torque of 9.6 Nm at 6,500 rpm. Meanwhile, a product in the mid-range scooter segment, People 16Fi is also equipped with a 125 cc engine but the maximum power only reaches 6.6 kW at 7500 rpm, 1.4 kW lower than the Fly. . This is a significant difference showing the optimization of the LEADER engine even though the torque index of the People 16Fi (9.8 Nm at 5,000 rpm) is slightly better.

In the past few years, Piaggio products are gradually applying advanced technology, not as conservative as before. That’s why Fly’s fuel supply system is used as an electronic fuel injection system. That is the key point that provides more fuel economy than its predecessor, the old Fly, and meets EUIII emissions standards. Therefore, the acceleration of the 2012 Fly is not equal to the old Fly, but the engine operates more smoothly.

Gently turn the key to start, still the typical sound of the famous Piaggio series is heard, the sound of the engine starting at idle is pleasant, the car’s head does not vibrate much. When accelerating, the ability to accelerate from 0-20 km/h is good, however from 20 km/h – 40 km/h, vibrations on the steering wheel appear a lot and the sound of the engine and transmission system screeching is heard. clearly. Continuing to increase the throttle, you can clearly feel the acceleration at 40-60 km/h is very good, the engine now operates quieter at a speed of 60 km/h.

In the speed range from 10 km/h to 60 km/h, when releasing the throttle and returning the engine to forced idle mode, the vehicle speed gradually decreases and the clutch system in the transmission system operates. It’s good to prevent your car from drifting in this mode. This can be said to be the valuable “smoothness” that Piaggio brings to Fly 2012.

If compared with products in the same segment originating from the land of cherry blossoms in terms of engine smoothness and flexibility in handling, the Fly 2012 manufactured in Vietnam does not have an advantage. Most likely that characteristic is Piaggio’s conservatism in preserving the characteristic appearance and engine sound of the “crawling” bee!.

High ground clearance

Regarding safety features, Fly is equipped with a front disc brake system, disc diameter 220 mm and rear drum brake diameter 140 mm. This braking system works with good efficiency when the front brake is applied with a brake force regulator, which prevents the wheels from locking when the front brake is applied too tightly and suddenly.

Inheriting the typical design of the Piaggio brand, Fly 2012 exudes luxury and fashion, especially with many amenities that are closer to Vietnamese consumers.

Those things will make many customers who are passionate about the Italian brand willing to spend 43,900,000 VND to own Fly 2012. Of course, there is another option for those who like speed more, which is the Fly 2012 version and the number you want. Expenditure will increase to 52,500,000 VND.
