Honda Air Blade 125cc – The utility vehicle

If someone expects the Honda Air Blade 125cc to be a sporty, stylish car, don’t hope so. The Japanese car company only focuses on developing technologies and utilities aimed at use. And that seems to have been true.

Like: Possessing many excellent technologies. Starts and operates smoothly but the 125cc engine still provides the necessary power. The car aims at many conveniences for users during use.

Dislike: There aren’t too many changes in design.

Practical design

Honda’s styling and design, in terms of aesthetics, have never been as highly appreciated as the cars of rival Yamaha. It is not a car that has personality, sportiness or appeal when operating on the road. Simply, Honda has its own direction. All designs of the Japanese automaker are practical, they are not exceptionally beautiful but they integrate and apply technology excellently.

All designs of the Japanese car company are practical

In this 4th generation, Honda continues to maintain the overall design that has helped Air Blade dominate the Vietnamese scooter market since its inception. Some details have been changed and improved, and with Honda, they are not just for decoration. Our first impression of the design of the new generation Air Blade is the project headlight system (converging lens) that looks like an owl’s eyes. The new double model allows two bulbs to light at the same time in each mode (near or far beam). This is a big improvement compared to the Air Blade 2011 or PCX, creating a unique feature for the Air Blade 125. It is said to be a “big improvement” because integrating 2 light bulbs at the same time requires quite a large amount of electricity. Honda has cleverly integrated a generator to provide enough electricity for 2 35w bulbs.

Honda AirBlade 125cc does not have many major improvements on the exterior

In addition to the big change in the lighting system, the Air Blade 125 also has a few small changes in design. On the new watch face, in addition to the speed needle and indicator lights, the remaining parameters are integrated into one LCD screen: fuel, hour clock (new), odometer, clock. trip meter… The storage compartment where the fuel tank has been removed. Therefore, from now on, riders will completely depend on the trunk under the seat. We still like the design of the older Air Blade Fi (with 2 small storage compartments on both sides, convenient for water bottles, disc locks, gloves, masks)… or Air Blade 2011 (for wallets, phones…).

The comfort and practicality of Air Blade’s design are always attractive points for customers

The water tank has been placed right next to the air filter, near the engine radiator fan. Thanks to that, the trunk is wider but not significantly, because it can only hold one half-head helmet. The air filter also changes shape and size and looks worse than before. The cooling fan cover has also been changed, more powerful but hardly makes the car look better. Other design changes such as 3D logos and new vehicle stamps; Bigger and longer rear shock absorbers, new taillights, exhaust covers… all don’t make too much of an impression. Not to mention that Honda still designed the rear passenger’s footrest completely out of steel, and is somewhat tapered (no rubber cushion). If you drive the car without paying attention, or do not fold it, the user will encounter problems. must have painful collisions with copper pipes.

Excellent technology

Previously, the PCX model launched in September 2009 surprised many people with its Idling Stop technology and ACG electromagnetic starting system because of its effective and stable operation, now, two That technology has become popular on Honda Vietnam’s scooter lines, from high-end to mid-range models like the new AirBlade product. The common use of technologies for different vehicle models can save Honda Vietnam a series of costs in research, testing, production, fixtures, assembly lines and labor training… while Car prices remain unchanged. These new technologies are creating better value for customers and the new Honda AirBlade 125cc is one of the clearest examples.

Idling Stop helps save fuel effectively and is environmentally friendly thanks to the ability to automatically shut off the engine

Idling Stop helps save fuel effectively and is environmentally friendly thanks to the ability to automatically shut off the engine, and switch to standby mode if the vehicle stops for more than 3 seconds. The engine is restarted when the driver accelerates without pressing the start button. This makes the car test team completely enjoy stopping and parking at intersections with red lights, without having to turn the key on/off, just pull the throttle just enough, the car automatically restarts smoothly. The safety drawback if a child sitting in front accidentally pulls the throttle has been overcome. Honda has increased the driver’s warning about this mode by designing a blue indicator light and an A symbol on the watch face, similar to the new PCX and SH and completely different from the first generation PCX.

Air Blade is a product that “understands” the tastes of Vietnamese customers very well

In addition, the car also has an ACG starting system that acts as the engine’s starter. Thanks to the above technologies, even though the engine capacity is larger, it saves up to 23% (according to Honda Vietnam) compared to the previous generation. Below, the Air Blade 125’s lock cluster includes both a saddle and trunk opening lock like the PCX, but unfortunately, the car finder feature that was standard equipment in the old generation is now only available on the special version.

Optimize engine operation

The engine, the heart of a product, is probably the biggest step forward on the new Honda AirBlade when using a 125cc capacity, liquid-cooled, maximum power of 7 kW at 8,000 rpm and torque. Maximum torque 10.1 Nm at 6,000 rpm. The new engine is much more powerful than the engine parameters of the current Honda Air Blade (capacity 108 cc, maximum power reaches 6.7kW at 8,000 rpm, maximum torque reaches 9.5 Nm at 6,000 rpm).

After 5 years of being criticized as weak compared to incumbent competitors (Nouvo, Hayate), Honda has now created a balance in strength.

After 5 years of being criticized as weak compared to incumbent competitors (Nouvo, Hayate), Honda has rebalanced its “technique”. Now the remaining issue is “experience”. Indeed, even though it is 110cc, the Air Blade is still rated well in terms of acceleration (1 person load). But when loading 2 people or going uphill, the power of the 110 engine block will immediately reveal its weakness and noise. As for the Air Blade 125, as soon as the start button is pressed, the engine operates smoothly. There is no more noise but the gentle, crisp sound of the potty. Try pulling the throttle, the engine revs smoothly, not “sluggish” like the old one. Perhaps it is due to increasing engine capacity and reducing rpm at the highest torque, making operating the vehicle quite easy. Quickly reach 40km/h in a distance of 50m, then 60km/h immediately after without having to accelerate. When releasing the gas, it doesn’t stall immediately. No more feeling pushed forward. The car runs compactly even though the weight has increased by 5kg and the tire size remains unchanged.

Try carrying 2 people. The car still jumps easily and doesn’t take long to reach a speed of 60km/h. No more noise. The sound of the engine is easily swallowed at a speed of 20km/h (in the city). If you switch from the Yamaha Nouvo 135 to the Air Blade 125, you won’t regret it. Air Blade 125 will ensure you get the perfect boost with every twist of the throttle. With the integration of the most advanced technologies on the engine such as friction reduction technology, perfect combustion ability, engine with integrated ACG starter and PGM-FI electronic fuel injection system, the new Air Blade brings to more powerful performance but more fuel efficient than the 110cc Air Blade.

After about 5 years of appearing in the Vietnamese market, Air Blade 125 can be considered the product that inherits the most “quintessence” of Honda compared to its “predecessors”. This is also a car equipped with superior technology compared to competitors in the same segment, and that is also the reason why, Air Blade 125 is a rare car model that is “hot” right in the middle of the car market. The machine is gloomy like never before.
