Automotive technologies on Yamaha Nouvo SX

Improvements in both the exterior and the engine with a smaller capacity than the previous generation have brought a new perspective on appearance and economy during use.

>> New scooters are continuously launching in the Vietnamese market

>> Yamaha Nouvo SX 125cc is priced at 35,900,000 VND

>> Identify changes in the new generation Yamaha Nouvo

In Yamaha’s scooter line, Nouvo is the product that has achieved the highest success since its inception until now. 10 years in Vietnam and this is the 9th generation of Nouvo to be launched, which is a testament to the success that Yamaha has had with Nouvo.

New points in design and technology

Although retaining the same platform as the Nouvo line, the 9th generation Nouvo has a youthful, sporty and angular appearance when Yamaha changed the cover for Nouvo. Compared to the previous version, the parameters such as length x width x height remain the same as 1955 mm x 705 mm x 1,080 mm. If viewed from the side, the Nouvo’s shape looks “classy” and neat, but from the front perspective, there are many aggressive features because Yamaha has attached many angular details to the mask and throughout the body of the vehicle to show its “majesty”. paralysis” for the car.

The front of the car has a sporty design with large headlights. This is a new highlight of the car when Yamaha has equipped Nouvo with headlights with projector lenses. Before launching, Yamaha also used PR for this product by releasing “half-hidden, half-open” information on forums and many online newspapers. In fact, many opinions say that this product uses xenon lights. But when the official information was released, Nouvo only used spherical projector lights.

The writer would like to point out a few advantages of this type of Projector lamp. When talking about lights, especially lights for cars, we must mention the light source and the optical device to guide that light source. Nowadays, HID, halogen or Laser and Led are all light sources, while reflectors or lenses are only used to adjust the light source to meet usage requirements. Currently, with the advancement of science and technology and especially the manufacturing industry, projector-style lights use spherical lenses in the production of car lights.

The advantage of projector-style lights is that they are not scattered, the light area radiates more evenly and farther… In fact, projector lenses are often used on mid-range cars and above, and motorbikes are all high-class. level then apply. As for the difference between xenon, bi-xenon and halogen, the author would like to provide information in another topic.

Returning to the Yamaha Nouvo product, when testing the light area provided by the projector headlights plus the light source provided by the halogen bulb, it is clear that with the application of this new design, the Nouvo SX has provided a good light area. for the driver when traveling in the dark. This is a plus point for this 9th generation Nouvo.

But be careful when driving Nouvo, just one carelessness will destroy the large glass area of the car’s headlights, and the cost for this detail is not small at all. If you look closely, you will see that the lampshade glass has a beautiful design, but is also very susceptible to collision and breakage.

Just one carelessness will destroy the large glass area of the car’s headlights, but the cost for this detail is not small at all

The design of the information dashboard is also a new design consisting of 2 parts, a traditional speedometer and next to it is an electronic information cluster about gasoline, instant fuel consumption, meter. meters… A modern technology that is usually only seen in cars has now been re-applied by Yamaha to Nouvo, which is the Fuel Eco feature. This meter will report instantaneous fuel consumption at a certain speed, and also provide the distance that can be traveled with the remaining fuel level in the fuel tank. This can be said to be very useful information for users.

The rear of the Nouvo SX stands out with a brake light with 6 LED bulbs, the LED light will be a good warning information for people behind. Different from the previous car, the two turn signal lights are attached to the two wings of the car. However, this tail design, if viewed directly, looks more cramped than the previous version.

With the aim of reaching out to the community when participating in traffic, Yamaha engineers have equipped Nouvo’s exhaust pipe with a panel with the tail bent to cover the exhaust pipe to prevent air from blowing onto the person behind. . But with traffic conditions in Vietnam, it is likely that this part will easily break because when traveling in crowded roads, the exhaust pipe is the part most susceptible to being hit by the vehicle behind.

The new Nouvo’s trunk is designed with a larger capacity thanks to the change in trunk height. Therefore, this trunk can hold up to 2 half-face helmets. The fuel tank is also equipped with a removable soft rubber overflow tray. Very useful in case of fuel overflow and even when cleaning the trunk.

Overall, these 9th generation Nouvo improvements have brought many useful utilities to users.

The biggest difference in this 9th generation Nouvo is that the engine only has a capacity of 124 cc and is equipped with YMJet-Fi electronic fuel injection technology, compression ratio 10.9:1. This is considered a fuel economy race between Yamaha and Honda in the Vietnamese market.

This engine produces 7.78 kW of power at 8,000 rpm and maximum torque of 10.47 Nm at 6000 rpm. Meanwhile, Nouvo SX’s direct competitor is the Honda Air Blade with a capacity of 108 cc, electronic fuel injection EFI, maximum power reaching 6.7kW at 8,000 rpm, maximum torque reaching 9.5 Nm at 6,000 rpm, compression ratio 11: 1. Those numbers also partly explain why Nouvo SX has better acceleration, which we will learn more about in the performance evaluation. .

Just gently pull the brake lever and the starter and the engine starts immediately, with a smooth idle sound. The vehicle’s acceleration is impressive, although not as good as the previous generation due to the use of a smaller engine capacity and the fuel supply system is electronic fuel injection. However, the Nouvo SX’s acceleration is better than both the Piaggio Fly and Honda Air Blade that we tested a while ago.

But when suddenly decelerating in forced idle mode, that is, applying the accelerator and then releasing it, the car jerks violently. This problem may be due to the clutch and belt friction in the transmission system. cause. Therefore, it does not have the smoothness when floating like Fly and especially Air Blade.

When accelerating evenly, the car accelerates smoothly and smoothly. Moving evenly from the speed range of 60 – 70 km/h, the car has good balance, without the feeling of “flying”. At higher speeds, vibrations on the steering wheel appear more. But it’s great for a product primarily intended for urban use like the Nouvo SX to achieve such achievements.

According to Yamaha Vietnam’s announcement, the new Nouvo is equipped with a set of non-tattooed tires with sizes 70/90-16″ for the front tire and 80/90-16″ for the rear tire. This set of tires reduces friction by 20%, helping the car accelerate better and save more fuel. To ensure safety, the Nouvo SX’s braking system uses disc brakes on the front wheels and drums on the rear wheels. When squeezing both brakes, the car stops smoothly and has good braking performance at speeds below 70 km/h. Up there, if you don’t control the braking force well, the car will “flip off”. Unfortunately, the new Nouvo is still not equipped with the electric kickstand that Honda applied to the Air Blade a few years ago and recently Piaggio also equipped it to the 2012 Fly.

Because the saddle height is 776 mm, Nouvo SX is suitable for people with a height of about 1.7 m. In particular, the design of the raised part in the footrest area makes Nouvo SX more suitable for men because women often like to wear skirts and will have difficulty getting in and out of the car.

The saddle part stands out with even white stitching on the black color of the cover. This new saddle has brought a smooth feeling and good grip to both front and rear passengers.

The 9th generation Nouvo is equipped with many modern and very useful features for users and is also worth the price of 36.9 million VND for the RC sports version and 35.9 million VND for the regular STD version. (Prices include VAT).
