Monster Energy Honda racing team driver Ricky Brabec won stage 12 of the 2020 Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia with the CRF450 RALLY racing car. This racer’s achievement brought Honda the Dakar victory 31 years after the last victory in 1989.

28-year-old American racer Ricky Brabec participated in the Dakar race for the first time in 2016 with the HRC team. 2020 is the fifth year this racer has participated. After winning stage 3 this season, rider Brabec rose to the top of the rankings. This position was firmly defended by driver Ricky in the following stages and excellently won his first championship at this tournament. Honda first participated in the third Paris-Dakar rally in 1981. Honda’s first victory was in 1986 with the NXR750, followed by three consecutive victories until 1989. Honda withdrew Dakar race in the following years until 2013 Honda decided to return to participate in the Dakar race. That year’s season was held in South America with the new racing car model CRF450 RALLY. Despite achieving runner-up titles in 2015 and 2018, the championship did not call Honda’s name until this year – after 8 years of trying to return to compete in the Dakar since 2013.
